Ananthagiri Hills is located in Vikarabad district, just eighty kilometers from Hyderabad. Filled with an amazing collection of natural beauties like dense green forest, adventurous trekking trails, puzzling caves  and captivating waterfalls, Ananthagiri Hills is a perfect weekend getaway for nature as well as adventure lovers. Beside these beauties, Ananthagiri is also famous for its sun rising view. Chilkur Balaji Temple  :  

Situated at a distance of fifty nine kilometers from Ananthagiri hills, Chilkur Balaji temple also known as Visa Balaji temple, is one among the only two temples which are not operated by the government of India. It is one of the oldest temples in Telangana which is surrounded by a rich history and amazing facts. 

It is said that the devotees who aspire to settle in a foreign country, complete eleven “parikramas” or revolutions of the temple, can look forward to their visas getting approved, hence the temple got its name  ‘Visa Balaji temple’ . Once the visa is approved, the devotee needs to return to the temple and do one hundred eight “parikramas” in order to pay gratitude to God. The temple attracts more than seventy five thousand devotees every week. The timing to visit the temple is 5 am to 8 pm and there is no entry fee.

Anantha Padmaswamy Temple :

Ananthagiri hills is the place which is home to one of the oldest and most popular temples, Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple. This temple is considered as the home of Lord Vishnu. Interestingly, it was built by a Nizam king four hundred years ago, which is now a place of religious harmony. The timing of the temple is 5 am to 8 pm.

Borra Hills and Caves

The Borra caves are located in Vishakhapatnam’s district, Araku valley, Ananthagiri hills. It was discovered in 1807 by William King who was a British geologist. Since then it has been one of the popular tourist attractions. The visual feast consists of awesome hilly trails, eye dropping scenery, Borra caves’ wild fauna, etc. It is a must visit place for every tourist considering its natural beauty. 

Mrugavani National Park : 

Although Mrugavani national park is smaller than other similar parks in the area, it makes up for that with its variety of flora and fauna. Spread over eight hundred fifty acres, the park was declared a national park in 1994. The park is home for animals such as black naped hares, Indian vipers, foxes etc. The Mrugavani National park would be of great interest for bird watchers as it consists of over hundred varieties of birds. The tourists also get a guided wildlife safari, organised by the governing authorities of the park, which is the best way to explore the important areas of the park.

Singur Dam

Singur dam is one of the famous tourist attractions near Ananthagiri hills. The dam fulfills the need of irrigation, drinking water and hydroelectricity in the city of Hyderabad. The dam is surrounded by lush green forest which is definitely a treat to the eyes. Around more than a thousand crocodiles have made their homes in the deep water of the dam. The best time to visit the dam is 9 am to 12 pm although the dam is open for visitors throughout the day.

Osman Sagar Lake

It’s an artificial lake created by Nizam Osmal Ali Khan. The breathtaking natural view of the lake makes it one of the most loved tourist attractions near Ananthagiri Hills. The lake is also known as Gandipet lake. The time to visit the lake is between 9 am to 5 pm. The entry fee is Rs. 5 per person.

Ananthagiri Hills ViewPoint : 

It is also known as Godamguda view point. This is the best place for the tourists who want to witness the fascinating beauty with an eagle’s eyes view. Even trekking or reaching up to the point is not difficult at all.  After reaching the top, one can enjoy quality time with his or her family and friends, with lush greenery in the background and cold, refreshing weather.


Trekking :  

If one enjoys trekking, then Ananthagiri hills is a perfect trekking destination. It is a perfect trekking place for both beginners and expert hikkers. Ananthagiri hills has two trekking trails. One starts right from the temple and the other one starts at a distance of half an hour away from the temple towards Karelli. One can find many pocket friendly trekking packages very easily. So don’t think much,  just wear your trekking shoes and start hiking towards the adventure. 

Go For Kayaking :  

The Kotepally reservoir in Vikarabad district arranges many adventurous water activities and kayaking is one among those. Tourists raft in the lake and explore the surroundings. One can even indulge in some tasty meals as several food stalls are set up around the lake area. One can also go for a picnic with his or her near and dear ones and can even cook their own food. 


 One can reach Ananthagiri hills by air, rail and road. One can get down at Hyderabad airport and book a taxi from there to cover a distance of a hundred kilometers to reach Ananthagiri hills. If one is opting for railways then he or she has to pass through Srikakulam leading to Ananthagiri. Ananthagiri hills also calls for a road trip which can be covered by bike if one is going alone and those with family or a group can easily take a bus or cab according to the number of people present.
